On January 23, 2025, the Governments of Samoa and China reached a significant milestone in their diplomatic relations by signing a Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement. This occasion coincided with the Chinese Spring Festival, adding a festive atmosphere to the event. The agreement was celebrated by Samoa's Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa and Chinese Ambassador Fei Mingxing, symbolizing a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two nations. The Agreement aims to make international travel easier for citizens of both countries, reflecting a deepening partnership as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. Discussions about the Agreement began during Prime Minister Mataafa's visit to China in November 2024, where both countries explored a range of cooperation agreements in areas such as economics, education, and trade. Both Samoa and China are committed to working together to address national development priorities, ensuring mutual benefits. The signing of the Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement not only simplifies travel but also paves the way for increased exchanges and cooperation in numerous fields, which is crucial for fostering a robust and enduring relationship between the two nations. The Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption was formally signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Mr. Agafili Shem Leo and Chinese Ambassador to Samoa, His Excellency, Mr. Fei Mingxing during the celebrations.
